John McVea
Born in San Antonio, Texas, John grew up the youngest of 9. After high school he served in the United States Army prior to continuing his education. He has traveled extensively, living both domestically and internationally. He arrived in Oregon in 1993, to begin the west coast leg of his journey, and decided to make Portland his home.
While continuing his education John worked in social services in a variety of capacities. His belief in being of service to his fellow man and his community led him to non-profit organizations dealing with family and juvenile issues, harm reduction skills building, capacity building for organizations serving marginalized communities and substance abuse and recovery efforts.
That same belief permeates his practice of law. He believes in fighting for what is just, fair and right. He understands his clients, and their interests, are his top priorities. He knows that while lawyers, judges and court staff see troubling legal issues everyday, the issue facing his client may be one they have never encountered before. As a result, he prides himself on aggressively representing his clients and protecting their interests, while relieving their natural anxiety by supporting, guiding and communicating with every client each step of the way.
In addition to his private practice John volunteers at St. Andrew's Legal Clinic, assisting low income Oregonians gain access to the Family Law Courts.
